Simple Home Security Tips and Tricks

Some of the typical items in your front or backyard may seem completely normal. Some of these completely normal items could be used for other purposes. In this case, these rocks can be used to break a window with very little effort. Even someone coming in with the intent to do harm to you, break into your house, etc doesn’t even need to bring tools with them.

Most locksmiths will push for better locks to protect you, your family, your house, etc. I never want to give any false sense of security as a locksmith. The windows in your home are and always will be the softest item in your house and the unfortunately the simplest item to bypass. All one needs is one of your decorative rocks, bricks, or any other heavy item in your yard.

What can you do to protect yourself from this? Removing any potential rocks and loose bricks may seem like an easy answer. Maybe move those items to your backyard that is potentially more secure. The one major security thing I as a locksmith comes across is unlocked windows. This is just another easy way in. While driving around to jobs, I also see quite a few garage doors open and no one in it or outside. This can conceived as an easy target to steal items or worst.

Here is a list of some of the simple home security tips you can do without ever hiring a locksmith or handyman:

1 – Lock Your Doors, all exterior doors

2 – Ensure your window locks are functional and keeping windows secure when locked

3 – If your front or backyard has thick bushes near the windows or doors, consider cutting them back a bit to avoid places to hide

4 – Make Friends with your neighbors, and have another set of eyes on your property while at the same time watching there place

5 – Keep garage door closed and don’t show off what you store in garage or give an easy way into the house

6 – remove simple items in your front that can be used to potentially gain access 7 – If you plan on hiding a key outside, don’t use common areas like under a door mat, under a rock, in a flower pot, etc.
